The first episode of the Leader Forum successfully commenced with the topic “Meet The Team Behind WLEN”. The event gathered full participation from WLEN (Women’s Language Empowerment Network) members, the Gotoco representative, international volunteers, and women-led language center leaders.

The introduction of Teach For Change Team

As the new volunteer coordinator for this project, I am filled with a sense of honour and appreciation to be a small part of it, especially as I learn about the core value of the Women’s Language Empowerment Network in assisting vulnerable women across Vietnam, where feminism is igniting a spark. The Leader Forum series was launched with the mission of empowering women-led language centers by equipping them with the necessary tools and support, as well as providing well-selected international volunteers to teach children not only about foreign languages, but also about diverse cultures, and different perspectives on life. Most importantly, exposure to foreign teachers allows enthusiastic children to broaden their horizons, be inspired, and fuel their passion for education, especially in languages.

Sharing and exchanging perspectives

During the first forum of this month, Hayley Kitchen, Gotoco Coordinator AKA a valued partner of C4C, explained how women-led language centers can become host schools, with details on the requirements and expectations. Furthermore, she particularly shared that the teaching experiences of previous international volunteers were incredibly enjoyable when they observed the children’s eagerness to learn and chat with them, as well as how much the students valued their lessons. I was also impressed by the expression of appreciation from Chi Ngan for her recent collaboration with Teach For Change (TFC). Chi Ngan is a tenacious woman and a single mother who is fighting against breast cancer while running her own English centers.

The event was coming to a close with personal experience sharing from two international volunteers and an open Q&A session, helping us to understand each other better and significantly contributing to future cooperation.

I believe with such a remarkable first move of the Leader Forum series, there would be more and more Vietnamese women as well as children assisted and encouraged, driving them toward future achievements and success.
